What is the best way to turn off default CSS styling in KendoUI?

I am facing an issue in my application where I am using global CSS definitions for "INPUT", "SELECT", and other elements. The problem arises when I try to incorporate KendoUI widgets, as they override my default CSS styles.

For instance, my CSS code looks like this:

.m-forms SELECT,
.m-forms TEXTAREA,
.m-forms INPUT[type=text] {
...
}

I attempted to solve the problem by modifying the CSS as follows:

.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) SELECT,
.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) TEXTAREA,
.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) INPUT[type=text] {
...
}

However, this solution did not work. How can I disable my default styles in KendoUI widgets? Here is a snapshot of my example DOM tree: my page source code

Answer №1

When your application is in operation, KendoUI injects specific classes. If you are not satisfied with the default appearance, you have the ability to customize it by choosing your own colors. To do this, simply create a CSS file and add it to your webpage. Just ensure that your CSS file is included after the KendoUI CSS file. Once the KendoUI CSS has been processed, your custom styles will take precedence over the existing ones.

To apply your preferred styling, follow this example:

.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) SELECT,
.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) TEXTAREA,
.m-forms :not([class^="k-widget"]) INPUT[type=text] {

  color: #FFFFFF;
  padding: 30px;
  font-size: 10px;
}
