What is the method for typing an array of objects retrieved from realmDB?

Issue: Argument type 'Results<Courses[] & Object>' cannot be assigned to the parameter type 'SetStateAction<Courses[]>'. Type 'Results<Courses[] & Object>' lacks properties such as pop, push, reverse, and shift that are present in 'Courses[]'. 6.ts(2345)

// Define interface
interface Courses {
  id: string;
  name: string;
  image: string;
}

const [courses, setCourses] = useState<Courses[]>([]);

useEffect(() => {
    async function getOfflineCourses() {
      const realmDB = await realm;

      realmDB.write(() => {
        const offlineCourses = realmDB.objects<Courses[]>('Course');
        setCourses(offlineCourses);
      });
    }
    getOfflineCourses();
  }, [realm]);

Answer №1

I successfully added the return to my state by implementing the function below:

setCourses(offlineCourses.toJSON());

Answer №2

I encountered a similar issue with my code that involved using generics.

const [customers, setCustomers] = useState<CustomerProps[]>([]);

async function fetchCustomers() {
setIsLoading(true);
const realm = await getRealm();
try {
  const response = realm
    .objects<CustomerProps[]>("Customer")
    .sorted("created_at")
    .toJSON();

  setCustomers(response);
} ...

I was facing the same error when using the hook setCustomer, but I resolved it by casting the 'response' as 'CustomerProps'.

  setCustomers(response as CustomerProps[]);

As a result, the generic cast of .objects was unnecessary.
