What is the reason behind Meteor automatically updating a record without the need to run a "Meteor.call" function for an update?

I am currently developing a Meteor.js application and while I have grasped the basic concepts of Meteor, I feel like I might be missing something when it comes to its reactivity principles.

Using angular-meteor, I am utilizing a $scope variable in my view which is linked to a $meteor.object. When creating a form to update this record, I began setting up a "Save" button with an ng-click directive to trigger the update using Meteor.call('update', {}). However, as I was inputting values into the fields, I noticed that the changes were immediately reflected in the record. The update method within the Collection.allow function was being invoked automatically and updating the record.

Is this behavior normal for Meteor applications or am I misunderstanding something?

Answer №1

Absolutely! Method calls in Meteor are primarily used for direct server communication, especially when specific interactions are required. The beauty of Meteor lies in its seamless synchronization of collections, eliminating the need for complex REST APIs just to manage data transactions.
