What methods can be used to report errors with Sentry while offline?

One key feature of my app is its ability to function both offline and online. However, I'm wondering how I can ensure that errors are still sent to my Sentry dashboard even when a user is offline.

Answer №1

Sentry introduces a unique offline caching transport method for handling events. Here is an example of how it can be used in a browser-based application:

import * as Sentry from "@sentry/browser";

Sentry.init({
  dsn: "https://...",
  transport: Sentry.makeBrowserOfflineTransport(Sentry.makeFetchTransport),
  transportOptions: {
    // Specific caching options can be set here, such as maxQueueSize.
  }
})

According to the documentation provided:

To make use of offline event caching, utilize makeBrowserOfflineTransport to wrap existing transports and store events using IndexedDB storage within browsers. Once connectivity is restored, all queued events will be sent out simultaneously.

Do note that IE does not support offline caching due to limitations in IndexedDB functionalities.

Answer №2

When the user is not connected to the internet, sending data to the Sentry server is not possible. However, a workaround could be storing these errors in LocalStorage temporarily and then transmitting them to Sentry once the user goes back online.
