What's the deal with Angular query parameters and parentheses?

My Angular application has a routing structure that includes a query parameter. Here is an example:

const routes: Routes = [{
  path: '',
  component: DefaultComponent
},
{
  path: ':uname',
  component: ProductDisplayComponent
}];

When I try to access the 'product' with the parameter 'uname', it works well with simple numeric values like this:

let prodId = params.get('uname')

The problem arises when the 'uname' value includes parentheses, such as '567(B)'. In this case, the app redirects back to '/'. Is there a way to retrieve the value even when 'uname' contains parentheses?

Appreciate any help,

Answer №1

As a result of the unique functionality of parentheses, some additional processing steps were taken to demonstrate how they work in this example scenario

   {
      path: 'd', component: DComponent,
      children:[
        {path: 'c', component: CComponent},
        {path: 'a', component: AComponent,outlet:'right'},

      ]
    },
    this.router.navigateByUrl('/home/d/(c//right:a)')

This feature is primarily utilized for serving as a secondary route outlet

After reviewing the information found in this report: github.com/angular/angular/issues/10280, I was able to resolve my issue by implementing the following solution.

  1. To start, create a new class with the code snippet provided below:

    import { UrlSerializer, UrlTree, UrlSegment, DefaultUrlSerializer } from '@angular/router';

     export class CustomUrlSerializer implements UrlSerializer {

         private dus = new DefaultUrlSerializer();

       parse(url: any): UrlTree {
            url = url.replace(/\(/g, '%28').replace(/\)/g, '%29');
            return this.dus.parse(url)
       }

       serialize(tree: UrlTree): any {
         return this.dus.serialize(tree).replace(/%28/g, '(').replace(/%29/g, ')');
       }
     }

  2. Next, within your "app.modules.ts" file (or equivalent modules file), make sure to include the following code snippet under providers:

     providers: [MyOtherServices, { provide: UrlSerializer, useClass: CustomUrlSerializer }],
