Why is the "class" attribute of an SVG node not being applied when I change it?

I am having trouble changing the "class" attribute of a node in SVG using my AngularJS Directive. Even though I've written the code to do so, it doesn't seem to be applied properly.

This is the code snippet from my Directive:

node = node.data(force.nodes(),function (d) { return d.id; });
var newNode = node.enter()
       .append("g")
       .attr("display",function(d) {return d.dis })
       .attr("class",function(d){
              return  "node " + d.class;
       })

Can someone help me understand why this isn't working as expected?

Thank you!

It appears that you are modifying the "class" attribute of a "g" within the node, rather than changing the class of the node itself. To update the class of the node, you can use the following method:

var updatedNode = node.attr("class", function(d) { return "node " + d.class; })
