A guide on efficiently storing and retrieving a webpage containing two angular2 components using local storage

I've been attempting to store and retrieve a page containing two angular2 components from local storage using the following code, but the component CSS is not being applied.

Here is the code I'm using to save:

localStorage.setItem('pageContent', JSON.stringify(document.getElementById("page-content").innerHTML));

And here is the code for loading the page:

document.getElementById("page-content").innerHTML = JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem("pageContent"));

I hope I have effectively communicated my issue.

Answer №1

Unfortunately, you're not able to accomplish that task. Angular has a tendency to control a large portion of the DOM, making it impossible to replace the entire body of the DOM at once. However, if you focus on replacing only a subset instead, you can achieve your goal by using the following code snippet:

<div [innerHTML]="htmlContent">
</div>

In this case, htmlContent is a variable that you can populate with data like so:

this.htmlContent = JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem("htmlContent"))

Be cautious when using innerHTML as it may strip out elements considered "unsafe". To include these elements, utilize DomSanitizer. Keep in mind that any Angular-specific features, such as links with routerLink, cannot be used within the html content.
