Before you can click on it, the dropdown menu mysteriously

After creating a header with a dropdown menu, I am facing an issue where the dropdown disappears before I can click or hover over it. Even after using transitions, the problem persists. What could be causing this? I have limited knowledge in javascript, so I prefer to stick to CSS only.

.logo > a {
    font-size: 1.2em;
    letter-spacing: .1em;
    font-weight: 900;
    color: #fff;
    text-decoration: none;
}

.navbar {
    display: flex;
    justify-content: flex-end;
    width: 60%;
    font-size: .75em;
    font-weight: 700;
}

.nav-items {
    width: 100%;
}

(nav items code goes here)

</body>

I am looking for a solution to make the dropdown menu hoverable with a transition effect.

Answer №1

When creating dropdown menus, remember to enclose the dropdown content within a li tag inside the ul element. Also, give all dropdowns a common class like

<div class="drop1 dropdown">
and apply hover effects using the selector
.nav-items .dropdown:hover > .drop-menu
.

To add onto @StasAmasev's response, you can implement the following structure:

<li><a href="#">Home</a>
    <div class="drop1">
       <label for="drop1">Recipes</label>
         <input type="checkbox" id="drop1">
         <div class="drop-menu">
             <a href="">Meat Recipes</a>
             <a href="">Veggie Recipes</a>
             <a href="">Desserts</a>
         </div>
    </div>
</li>

Additionally, utilize the following CSS styling:

.nav-items li:hover .drop-menu {
   visibility: visible;
   max-height: 2000px;
   opacity: 1;
   z-index: 1;
}

Another option is to enclose <div class="drop-menu"> within your <label> tag, like so:

                    <div class="drop1">
                        <label for="drop1">Recipes
                          <input type="checkbox" id="drop1">
                          <div class="drop-menu">
                            <a href="">Meat Recipes</a>
                            <a href="">Veggie Recipes</a>
                            <a href="">Deserts</a>
                          </div>
                        </label>
                    </div>
