Compiling SCSS to CSS in Vue.js is a breeze

I am working on a vue js project that includes scss files. My goal is to compile these scss files into css and store them in the public folder. How can I achieve this? Should I make changes to the vue.config.js file?

const path = require('path');

module.exports = {
    chainWebpack: config => {
        config.entry('theme')
            .add('./src/assets/app.scs')
            .end();
    },
    css: {
        extract: {
            filename: 'app.css',
            chunkFilename: 'css/app.css'
        },
        modules: false,
        sourceMap: true
    },
    configureWebpack: {
        resolve: {
            alias: {
                '@': path.resolve(__dirname, './src')
            }
        }
    }
};

If you are utilizing Webpack in your project, I highly recommend incorporating vue-loader alongside sass-loader, ensuring to include a specific option to extract the compiled css for optimal performance.

  • vue-loader takes the lead in segmenting your Single File Components (.vue files) into HTML / Script / Style sections and directing each part to the appropriate loader.
  • sass-loader (especially when paired with dart-sass) plays a vital role in transpiring your sass code into css format.
  • To effectively manage the extraction of final css, consider integrating MiniCssExtractPlugin and determine the desired location for this process: https://webpack.js.org/loaders/sass-loader/#extracts-css-into-separate-files
