The dimensions of the window - creating divs within td elements - the appearance of scroll

Here is the HTML code that I am working with:

<table>
    <tr>
        <td class='tclone' id='clone'></td>
         <td class='loader' id='loader'>
              <div id='tdiv' style="height:630px; width:835px; overflow:auto;"></div>
         </td>
    </tr>
</table>

I have JavaScript functionality set up to dynamically append content to tclone and tdiv elements when this HTML is opened in a new window. tdiv specifically loads an image, which was causing overflow beyond the window size. To address this issue, I added width and height parameters to the div element, as well as allowed scroll-bars inside the td element. While this approach works fine for fixed window sizes, I am looking for a way to automatically resize the div element and adjust its scroll-bars whenever the user resizes the window.

Are there any suggestions on how to achieve this dynamic resizing behavior?

Answer №1

To make the dimensions responsive, you must define the width and height in percentage like this:

<div id='tdiv' style="height:50%; width:50%; overflow:auto;"></div>

Remember to modify the percentage values based on your specific needs.

Answer №2

Ensure that the table has "table-layout: fixed" set on it. It is important to use % based widths for both the table and td elements. Avoid adding a specific width to the div container.

If the content within the div overflows and is not wrapped in another tag, consider adding a wrapper around the div element.

Instead of using % widths, you can also consider using the min-width and/or max-width attributes for more control over the layout.
